Notes: In the fall of 1954, Nathan Daniel started production of Silvertone guitars for Sears. He also produced the same guitars under the Danelectro name, sold to other jobbers. These early models didn't have truss rods but had a 3/4" square aluminum tube beginning at the peghead and through the body to the bridge. The bodies were constructed of solid Poplar wood. The Silvertone models were covered with a dark maroon vinyl covering, while the Danelectro models were covered in a whitish tweed material. The Silvertone brand produced a wide variety of styles over the years. Mainly a beginner's instrument, their unique tones and styles have stood the test of time and are now highly regarded collectables.

Notes: Gibson's Les Paul Special was introduced as a variation of the Junior model in 1955. It was basically a two pickup version, with the same P90 pickups. Featuring a blonde/yellow finish instead of the typical sunburst, some were referred to as 'TV' models because they looked better on the black and white televisions of the era.

Notes: Most amp enthusiasts know the story: Jim Marshall ran a London music store in an era (the early 1960's) when demand for Fender amps far outstripped supply, and, in an effort to copy the Bassman, inadvertently invented the sound of hard rock, and the look of the amp stack. While Marshall collectors can spend a lifetime tracking down the hundreds of species, the cornerstone pieces are; The JTM45 head; The "Small box" 50w; the 100w Super Bass/ Super Lead "Plexis". Legendary (and scarce) combos include "The Bluesbreaker" and "The 18-watt". Marshall's early "Glory Days" came to a gradual close around 1973, with the advent of printed circuit boards. Among British rock amps, Marshalls are, arguably, the easiest to live with, in terms of voltage compatibility, ease of repair, and ready availability of parts, tubes, and knowledgeable technicians. The Hollywood Vintage Collection is proud to house a STUNNING selection of early Marshall heads.

Notes: The Fender Esquire was the first guitar sold by Fender in 1950. Shortly after its introduction, a two-pickup version named the Broadcaster was introduced. The single pickup version retained the Esquire name. At the time, the Gretsch Company had already marketed a drum set under the 'Broadkaster' name, and, at their request, Fender renamed it the 'Telecaster.' Although the one-pickup Esquire was manufactured first, it is now generally regarded as a variant of the more popular Telecaster.

Notes: Fender introduced the Precision Bass (P Bass) in 1951. The P Bass was the first electric bass and was a smash hit. The Precision bass included a slab double cut away ash body, a single coil pickup & a one piece 34" neck (Maple). The early P Bass also featured large Kluson tuning machines heads which were later replaced by conventional geared tuning machines. In 1957 the pickup was upgraded to a split double coil pickup and a wider headstock was added.

Notes: Formed in 1909 as Ludwig & Ludwig by brothers William F and Theo Ludwig, Ludwig has introduced innovations in drum construction throughout its history. The Black Beauty snare drum, a hand-engraved black nickel-plated brass shell drum first manufactured by Ludwig during the 1920s, is highly prized by collectors and players alike. The Ludwig Supraphonic snare drum is considered to be an industry standard for professional snares. Originally made of chrome-plated brass, it was later made of a chrome-plated aluminum alloy. Such notable drummers as Ringo Starr, John Bonham, Ian Paice, Ginger Baker, and Steve Gadd, used this drum exclusively throughout the 1960s and 1970's. Wood shell snare drums featured precision finishes supplied by Steinway and Sons. Although they have mostly been famous for their metal drums, especially their metal snare drums, most of the drums manufactured by Ludwig have had a plastic "pearl" wrap glued on top of wooden drums. The most sought after original Ludwig finish is the 1960s Oyster Black Pearl, made famous by Ringo Starr. Perhaps the most interesting use of materials appeared in Ludwig's Vistalite drum kits. Vistalite was the trade name used by Ludwig for its line of transparent colored acrylic drums in the 1970s.

Notes: Due to falling Les Paul sales, Gibson redesigned the Les Paul in 1960. For the next two years, Les Pauls hade the body style we now associate with the SG. Although popular, Les Paul himself didn't care for it. The name was officially changed to SG (solid guitar) in 1963.

Notes: Although introduced in 1952, the Gibson Les Paul didn't receive the official definition of "standard" until 1960. Built with a maple capped mahogany body and two PAF humbuckers, the standard would become the most desired and valuable electric guitar in history. Played by the likes of Duanne Allman and Jimmy Page, it has truly become the "standard" rock/blues/jazz instrument.
