The Gretsch company got a relatively early start with electric guitar production, selling their first models by 1939. However, it wasn't until 1954 that Gretsch became a major player in the electric market. The Electro-II was renamed the Country Club and steadily gained popularity. Two models that stand out the most from this time period of Gretsch are the 6120 Chet Atkins and the White Falcon. Gretsch has enjoyed a position as one of Americas classic guitar companies ever since. |

Although introduced in 1952, the Gibson Les Paul didn't receive the official definition of "standard" until 1960. Built with a maple capped mahogany body and two PAF humbuckers (occasionally P-90s), the standard would become the most desired and valuable electric guitar in history. Played by the likes of Duanne Allman and Jimmy Page, it has truly become the "standard" rock/blues/jazz instrument. |

The Telecaster Custom (along with the Thinline and Deluxe models) was an attempt to enter the humbucker market largely dominated by Gibson. The original Telecaster Custom was in production from 1972 until 1981. Early examples sported a curly "Custom" logo and "Witch-hat" vol and tone knobs. Later examples differed; the knobs changed to Stratocaster types, and the "Custom" logo changed to the standard italicized block typeface used for Fenders of the period.

In early 1952, the Guild guitar company began its rise from a small Manhattan guitar workshop to one of the world's premier makers of high-quality acoustic (and several popular electric) guitars. Registered in October of that year, the fledgling Guild Guitar company set up a 1,500-square-foot manufacturing facility on the second floor of a factory. In 1963, Guild introduced their first dreadnought models, the Guild D40 Blugrass Jubilee and the Guild D50 Bluegrass Special. |

The Gibson Les Paul Deluxe was originally released in 1969. It was basically a Standard Goldtop that was fitted with mini-humbuckers.
The new pickups produced a nice, tight crunch that pleased many players of the period. The Who's Pete Townshend made use of them in several concerts and recordings. The guitar first appeared on the gibson price list in 1969 for $425 and proved to be a successful alternative to the full-sized humbucker equipped Les Pauls. |

The Guild Guitar line was founded as a quality alternative to the Gibson-Epiphone merger. Alfred Dronge, a professional guitarist and music store owner, and George Mann, a one-time Epiphone exec, formed a partnership and registered the Guild name in October of 1952.
The partners set up shop in a 1500-square-foot New York City loft in the midst of two very important communities: the community of experienced craftsmen from the nearby Epiphone and Gretsch factories and the community of big-time jazz session guitarists performing and recording in New York.

Travis Bean is an American luthier and machinist from California.
In 1974, he partnered with Marc McElwee and Gary Kramer to start Travis Bean Guitars, which made high-end electric guitars and basses featuring machined aluminum necks, an unusual design that provided incredible clarity and sustain. The aluminum center section ran through the instrument body, with the pickups directly mounted to the aluminum. The majority of these instruments featured solid koa wood bodies and humbucker pickups. Models included the Artist, Standard, Wedge (rare), and TB500 (rare) with single coil pickups.

By the mid '60s it was the largest and most respected guitar manufacturers in Europe, employing some 300 workers at its Bubenreuth location. Mounting debt and a changing music environment, however, forced the company on hard times, and in 1975, the company went bankrupt. |
