 Year:  1959 Location: Hollywood

Notes: The Gibson ES-345 was introduced in 1959, and it represented an attempt to both make an upgrade to the ES-335. It featured new innovations such as Varitone Switch, Stereo capability and an optional Vibrato. The Gibson Company hoped that these additional upgrades would increase sales, and ultimately its share of the electric guitar market at the time. The original ES-345 was a fabulous guitar, and it was the model that blues great B.B. King favored prior to his switching to the Gibson ES-355.

 Year:  1970 Location: Hollywood

Notes: The Rickenbacker Light Show was an extremely limitted production electric that featured psychadelic lighting behind a translucent pickguard. The lights even strobed in time with the music, making this a great stage instrument.

Notes: Gibson's greatest success in the electric bass market came in 1963 with the introduction of the Thunderbird. Featuring neck-through construction and a scale length longer than any fender, they were an instant hit due to their great, low rumble and modern shape.

Notes: Founded in 1952, the Mosrite guitar company was basically a one man operation for the first 6 years. Initially known for their double and triple neck designs, the single neck "Ventures" model became the most recognizable, due to it's unique shape as well as it's association with the popular '60's surf band of the same name. Mosrites are produced to this day and still enjoy a sizable cult following worldwide.

Notes: The Super Jumbo 200 was one of Gibson's more upcale flattops. Not for everyone, the maple back and sides of the J-200 lacked the warmth of the J-45 and other mahogany or rosewood models. A great recording and live guitar, it's treble response is known to stand out in any mix.

Notes: Descended from a medieval drum called the Tabor, the snare is a drum with strands of curled metal wire, metal cable, plastic cable, or gut cords stretched across the drumhead, typically the bottom. The modern snare drum is considered one of the most important drums of the drum kit. In today's popular music, especially with rock drum kits, the snare drum is typically used to play a backbeat pattern as well as fills and rolls.

Notes: Formed in 1909 as Ludwig & Ludwig by brothers William F and Theo Ludwig, Ludwig has introduced innovations in drum construction throughout its history. The Black Beauty snare drum, a hand-engraved black nickel-plated brass shell drum first manufactured by Ludwig during the 1920s, is highly prized by collectors and players alike. The Ludwig Supraphonic snare drum is considered to be an industry standard for professional snares. Originally made of chrome-plated brass, it was later made of a chrome-plated aluminum alloy. Such notable drummers as Ringo Starr, John Bonham, Ian Paice, Ginger Baker, and Steve Gadd, used this drum exclusively throughout the 1960s and 1970's. Wood shell snare drums featured precision finishes supplied by Steinway and Sons. Although they have mostly been famous for their metal drums, especially their metal snare drums, most of the drums manufactured by Ludwig have had a plastic "pearl" wrap glued on top of wooden drums. The most sought after original Ludwig finish is the 1960s Oyster Black Pearl, made famous by Ringo Starr. Perhaps the most interesting use of materials appeared in Ludwig's Vistalite drum kits. Vistalite was the trade name used by Ludwig for its line of transparent colored acrylic drums in the 1970s.

Notes: The Gibson Melody Maker was first launched in 1959 and remained in production until 1971. It had a thin slab-style mahogany body and a one-piece mahogany neck. All the electronics, from the small single-coil pickups to the cable jack, were assembled on a scratchplate and installed in a routed cavity on the front of the body. The strings ran from a straight-sided simplification of the traditional Gibson headstock at one end to a wraparound bridge/tailpiece unit at the other.
